This issue was very well put together. The pictures are clear and the headlines are big which is good so they are noticable. The stories are good length and they have good info in them. I saw people reading the issue and complimenting it. It looks like The Argus which is good because it looks real and not ones that a student or a classroom would make. The only things wrong with the front page are that it does not seem that interesting. The stories should have been more entertaining and related to more school activities.

in the second page, the placement of the advertisement is put in a good place which make the stories blend in more with each other. This was a good issue and other than the few minor errors I don’t see that many things wrong with the issue of the hatchet. I think as the issues go on, the quaility of the paper improves and we are doing a good job right now. The paper looks cool and matches one of a real newspaper which is a good thing. I’m rico jones. bye.

BEATS again?????? ;(

Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski signed a four-year contract Tuesday that will make him the league’s highest-paid kicker, his agent said.

The contract calls for Janikowski to earn as much as $16 million, including $9 million guaranteed. That matches the terms of the contract the Raiders gave Shane Lechler last year in making him the league’s highest-paid punter.

Paul Healy, Janikowski’s agent, said, “He is the best kicker in the NFL, and the Raiders have recognized that fact by rewarding him with this monstrous contract.”

Janikowski could not be reached for comment. The Raiders did not issue a release.

Janikowski, who turns 32 on March 2, is fresh from the best season of his 10-year NFL career and was in position to receive offers from multiple teams if he reached free agency. That would have happened if the Raiders did not sign him to a contract or place the transition or franchise tag on him by Feb. 25.

He converted 26 of 29 field-goal attempts in 2009, including a career-best 61 yarder against the Cleveland Browns on Dec. 27. That represented the third-longest field goal in NFL history.

The Raiders made re-signing Janikowski one of their top priorities this offseason so that they could keep intact a kicking combination that is regarded as one of the league’s best.

Once the deal is approved by the league, the Raiders’ sights will be set on defensive lineman Richard Seymour. He is eligible to become an unrestricted

free agent unless the Raiders secure his rights before March 5.

The Raiders are exploring the option of signing Seymour to a long-term contract. They also have the option of keeping him in a Raiders uniform in 2010 by placing the franchise tag on him before the Feb. 25 deadline.

1. Who is the kicker on the Oakland Raiders?

2. How much was his contract?

3. How much money was guaranteed?

4.  How old is he going to be on March, 2nd?

5.  What would happen if the Raiders didn’t resign him?

MIDYEAR BROOOO!!!

During the first semester of journalism i learned how to sale ads. I have improved my writing skills also. One skill i have learned that might help me in the future is interviewing people. I want to be a sports reorter when i get older. I never knew how much work it takes to make a ten page school newspaper. People stay after school a lot, and a lot of work is done outside the classroom which made it hard for me. For second semester i will try to focus more on this class because i bareley passed. I know my writing abilities and believe i can recieve a better grade in this class next semester. The class did not meet my expectations because i expected it to be a little easy but its not at all and its a little slow paced at times which makes me slack off and take breaks when i shouldnt.

Video Broadcast

http://svhsvideo.com/

I like the video because they act like it’s real news at school. The person talking holds a mic like he is really on T.V. on the channel 2 news or something. The format is in order and has great detail. They add a lot of sense of humor to their videos because most of them are funny.

Blog Post 3: “Attribution and Interviewing”

http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/04/21/qa-with-michael-crabtree-part-i/

The interviewer interviewed Micheal Crabtree, a wide reciever on the San Francisco 49ers.

1. The reporter most likely asked, what team does Crabtree think he will get drafted by

2. The reporter asked about how his ankle was doing

3. What team would you like to play for?

4. How will your injured foot effect your draft status?

Yes, because it explains how Newark makes big plays on defense to win football games. The article told us which two teams were playing and who the key players were. It told us when and where the game was also.

Starting Off

Last year my english teacher Mrs. Jasani told me I was a great writer. I like writing essays on good topics. When i had my inverview last year for the class i wanted to be a sports reporter from day one. Mr. Skillings being the nice person he is gave me the job. I play football for my school and hope to play when i graduate somewhere in college. Some day i would like to play in the National Fooball Leugue. If that doesn’t work out i want to be a sports reporter or do something along the lines of broadcasting. I am getting early practice right now by being in this class. I hope to help the Hatchet Newspaper from last year. I’m not saying it was bad last year but it’s just always better to improve year by year. One of my fears about the class is not passing because i’m not all that great with using computers and their is a lot of computer work in this class. I hope to gain skills in reporting, interviewing, and writing from this class so that if i do become a reporter when im older i can use those skills.
